    Foodtography School

Published: Jul 23, 2021 · Modified: Apr 20, 2022 by Lee · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment .

Let’s talk about something that changed my photography for the better...Foodtography School.

Before we begin, I do want to mention that I am fortunate enough to be a Foodtography School Affiliate.

This means that if you decide to purchase from their school, I do get a commission.

However, you do not pay anything extra and in fact you would get a 15% DISCOUNT on your purchase by using my special link and the code: LANEANDGREY

    That’s pretty awesome!

Being an affiliate means so much to me because I have been recommending this school ever since I took it. Well before becoming an affiliate.

Is Foodtography School Worth The Money?

Before I teamed up with Foodtography School, many people sent me messages asking if I thought it was worth the money and my answer was always the same.

I truly believe it absolutely was worth it!

However, I do understand the concern because I had the same worries and fears when I purchased the first class.

After I made the purchase (before starting the course) I was heartsick. Oh gosh did I do the right thing?!

As a mother of two small children, I was not accustomed to spending money on myself and I was concerned I was taking money away from the kids for something they needed.

But I wanted to improve and I knew I needed direction.

The answer was YES. It was absolutely worth it; I DID the best thing I could have done.

Not only for myself, but for my kids as well.

I now have my own company and if it wasn’t for Foodtography School, I never would have started my own LLC.

    Practice Makes Close to Perfect

Haha I say that because there is ALWAYS room to grow and to push yourself and improve.

With that said, the school is wonderful but it isn’t magic.

This does not mean you will watch one unit of the class and instantly be a better photographer.

Improvement requires determination and practice on your part.

BUT, with that said, Foodtography School gave me all the tools and know how that I needed in order to improve my work.

Do I Need to Know How To Use A DSLR?

Prior to taking the first Foodtography School I had zero clue as to how to use my camera.

I had just bought a dslr but I didn’t know how to work it.

And manual mode?! Forget it. The thought terrified me.

I tried googling videos and some were informative but they were not about food.

They were not specific to food photography in the way I wanted to photograph.

Below I have a picture of cupcakes that I took prior to Foodtography School on the left and a picture I took after the school, on the right.

    The difference is incredible.

Foodtography school has really updated the dynamic range of skills used to take pictures, especially in the difference between these two pictures of cupcakes.

    RIGHT: After Foodtography School

So NO…you do not need to know how to work a dslr prior to taking the first Foodtography course, but I do recommend having a dslr for that course.

But yes, you need to continually practice after taking the course. But, without the class, I never would have known what it was I needed to be working on.

What Courses Does Foodtography School Offer?

    Foodtography School

This is the perfect course for beginners the way I was. In this course you learn about:

    • Fundamentals of Photography
    • Composition
    • Light
    • Branding
    • Editing
    • Social Media
    • Marketing
    • Extras: Styling sessions of pasta, pie and brownies!

This course is absolutely perfect for someone just starting out and learning the ropes.

    Advanced Foodtography School

This course is perfect for those who already have knowledge of photography but want to step their work up even more. I am currently in the middle of this course. This course dives into:

    • Structuring Your Scene
    • Advanced Placement Principles
    • Advanced Styling
    • Styling Sweets
    • Styling Savory
    • Properties of Light
    • Advanced Editing Theory
    • Cohesive Banding
    • Growing Your Social
    • Skyrocketing Your Business

This course is truly for those who already have a good understanding of everything that is touched upon in the first course.

    iFoodtography

This course is all about how to shoot using your iPhone. Perfect course for those who don’t have access to a dslr. This is what’s included:

    • Fundamentals of Smartphone Photography
    • Composition and Lighting
    • Live Styling Sessions
    • Editing
    • In the Wild (Shooting in Restaurants)

    Restaurant Foodtography

All about how to shoot in restaurants, how to style in restaurants, how to edit to match the restaurant’s style, and how to manage social media for restaurants.

    • Fundamentals and Composition of Restaurant Photography
    • Creating a Visual Branding Identity for Restaurants

    This course also offers bonuses:

    • Behind the Scenes of a Restaurant Shoot
    • Live Styling Video
    • Editing to March a Restaurant’s Style
    • 3 Pack of Lightroom Presets

Do they Offer Things Other Than Courses?

Yes! You can also purchases these items:

    • Presets for Lightroom
    • Guides and Templates

The guides and templates have been so useful to me.

When I booked my first job I didn’t have any clue as to how much I should be charging and their guide truly helped me figure it out.

The pitch emails and media kit template are also wonderful to help figure out what to say when reaching out to companies and even when following up with them.

Can I Take The Courses At My Own Pace?

Absolutely! This is one of my favorite things about these courses.

Being a mother of two small children means sometimes I’ll try to start a course and won’t be able to finish it. These courses are perfect for that or if you work full time.

You can take them on YOUR own schedule and when you can because they will be there forever!

They never disappear…you have access to the courses forever.

Foodtography School is Worth Every Penny

For me, this school has been worth every penny. I continually feel myself improving.

Sometimes when I feel discouraged or stuck, I look back on my old pics to show myself, “Hey. Look how far you’ve come. You can do this.”

I truly credit Sarah of Broma Bakery and her Foodtography School for giving me the knowledge base to take something I loved doing to the next level.

If you have any questions about the school, feel free to send me an email or DM me on Instagram and I will answer to the best of my abilities!
