butter and syrup descend from the top of a stack of easy no egg french toast.

This Easy No Egg French Toast is one of my all time favorite breakfasts. Ok, I seriously love most breakfast food, but French Toast definitely is a stand out to me. When my kids got diagnosed with food allergies and celiac disease, I needed to find a way to make this dish in a way that they both would still love, since it was something they both ate. The answer is a 4 ingredient recipe that tastes just as amazing as the original (if not better)!

Reasons to Love This No Egg French Toast

    • Allergy Friendly- This egg free French Toast is gluten free, nut free, egg free and can easily be dairy free (vegan)!
    • Super Light- Because this breakfast has zero eggs, the French Toast remains light and isn't super dense!
    • Golden Brown- Thanks to the butter or vegan baking stick we grease the pan with, they become a nice golden brown even though they have no eggs!
    • 4 Ingredients- This easy recipe uses gf bread, milk, cinnamon and butter!

    Ingredient Notes

easy french toast ingredients all separated: milk, gluten free bread, butter, and ground cinnamon.
    • Gluten Free Bread- Our household of course uses gluten free bread but if you're not gluten free, you can use whatever bread you desire.
    • Milk- If there are no dairy allergies or if you’re not vegan, you can use regular whole milk. For non-dairy, use a dairy-free milk of your choosing.
    • Cinnamon- Wouldn't be French Toast without this key ingredient!
    • Butter/ Vegan Baking Stick- You can use either to grease the pan with.

See my recipe card below for a complete list of the ingredients with measurements.

    Substitutions and Variations

How to Make this into Vegan French Toast

    • Use a gluten free bread that’s also vegan.
    • Only use a non dairy milk of choice.
    • Make sure the cinnamon doesn't have any strange fillers.
    • Use vegan baking sticks instead of butter to grease the pan.
    • Read the label on any toppings to ensure they’re gluten free, nut free and vegan.

This recipe has not been tested with some of these substitutions and/or variations due to celiac disease and food allergies. If you change any of the ingredients, please let us know how the recipe turned out in the comments below!

How to Make No Egg French Toast

Here are the step by step instructions to make this egg free French Toast recipe!

    milk mixed with brown cinnamon.

Step 1: Combine the Milk and Cinnamon

Measure out the milk. Whisk in the cinnamon until fully combined.

sliced gluten-free bread soaking in a pan of cinnamon milk.

Step 2: Pour the Mixture Over Bread

Place 4 slices of bread in a baking dish. Pour the cinnamon milk over the bread. Let sit for one minute and flip the bread. Let sit another minute and remove.

putting the soaked slices on a hot nonstick pan.

Step 3: Heat the Griddle and Add the Bread

Set your burner to medium low heat and carefully butter your grill pan.

Place the 4 slices of bread onto the warmed buttered grill pan and let cook for a few minutes until the under side has turned a golden brown. You can peek with a spatula.

flipping the golden-brown toast on the pan.

Step 4: Flip the French Toast

Once the under side is golden brown, flip the French Toast over and cook until those sides are golden brown as well.

Take off the pan and top with whatever you’d like! In this house we love melted chocolate, powdered sugar and maple syrup. Yes. All of that. It’s delicious. Haha.

    Expert Baking Tips

    • Only Let the Bread Sit 1 Minute on Each Side in the Milk- A lot of gluten free breads fall apart when submerged in milk for too long so only let it stay in the milk for 2 minutes tops.
    • Use Extra Butter I’ve founding extra butter helps to get that beautiful French Toast color. Before flipping the bread over, top it with a tiny piece of butter.
